Sheriff Paul D. Rich began his career at the Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Deputy in 1988. In 1989 Sheriff Rich attended the Police Academy and soon after was transferred to the Road Patrol (Uniform Services). As a Road Patrol Deputy, Sheriff Rich was assigned to a Michigan State Police Narcotics Enforcement Team and then to the Sanilac County Drug Task Force as an investigator.
In 2002, Sheriff Rich was promoted to Sergeant and while in that supervisory position held assignments in Uniform Services, Sanilac County Drug Task Force Enforcement Unit, Secondary Road Patrol, Marine Division, Grant Coordinator, Special Response Team, and was a co-founder of the Sheriff’s Office Aero Squadron. Sheriff Rich retired in 2017 after 29 years of service and continued his 20 plus year role as Chief of Police for the Village of Peck.
Sheriff Rich was elected Sheriff of Sanilac County on November 3, 2020 becoming Sanilac County’s 28th Sheriff on January 1, 2021.
