SmartInmate.com connects family and friends with inmates housed in the Sanilac County Jail through an easy-to-use online communications system. When using SmartInmate.com you can connect in just minutes and correspond every day in near real time instant communication with your loved ones.

Telephones are located in inmate housing areas and phone calls can be placed only by inmates to the outside party. All calls are collect call or pin debit.
Messaging is now available through Smart Communications. This service is simular to a texting service provided by your mobile provider.
Video Visitation is made possible via SmartVisit Video Visitation System. You will need to set up an account by visting www.smartinmate.com
Family & Friends can now send photos to inmates using smartinmate.com.
We will not accept mail that does not meet these requirements, with the exception of Legal Mail. The processing center reviews mail the same day it is received and forwards it to the Sanilac County Jail for review. They do not accept money orders. Mail will be reviewed once received and be available to the inmates immediately upon approval with exceptions of Sundays and Holidays. Under some circumstances, mail can be withheld from the inmate and turned over to the Shift Supervisor.
Magazines and newspapers will be received from a publisher ONLY. Any magazine or material that contains obscene pictures, racist or "hate" materials, incites violence, rape, homosexual sex or sodomy, or that otherwise compromises the safety, security or proper order of this facility will be returned to the sender.
NO packages of any kind will be accepted, and will be returned to the sender.
Letters and greeting cards (plain only; no glitter, stickers, glued items, etc.) may be sent to an inmate addressed to the Mail Processing Center. The mail processing center address is found to the right.
LEGAL MAIL (ATTORNEY/CLIENT PRIVILEDED):
Legal mail can be sent digitally to inmates (remaining privileged) via smartinmate.com or directly to 65 N. Elk St. Sandusky, MI 48471. It will be opened by an officer in the presence of the inmate and a brief check performed to verify that the contents are in fact legal nature and no contraband exist. It will then be scanned electronically into the inmate account.
